Historic Lamborghini Series: 1966 - 1968 Lamborghini 400GT

It's that time again. Time to throw back to the mid-1960s to learn more about Ferruccio Lamborghini's early models, which paved the way for Lamborghini models like the Gallardo and Aventador we know, love, and drool over today. Last time we took a look at the 1964-1966 Lamborghini 350GT. Today, let's move on to the 350GT's successor, the 400GT.

source:Lamborghini

The 400GT Interim, not to be confused with the later 400GT 2+2, was launched in 1965 and was essentially a 350GT with a much larger V12 engine. The previously used 3.5-liter engine had its stroke enlarged from 77 to 82mm, thus increasing the overall displacement to 3,929cc or 4-litres. An increase in compression from 9.5 to 10.2:1 also increased horsepower. Only 23 of these cars were built, with three featuring aluminum bodywork.

source:Lamborghini

A second 400GT, known as the 400GT 2+2 was first presented at the 1966 Geneva Auto Show. Offering a different roofline to the 300GT and the first 400GT, the larger body shape allowed the +2 seating to be added in the rear, where the 350GT only had room for luggage or +1 seating. Carrozzeria Touring designed the bodywork for the 400GT. Interestingly, this model also featured a Lamborghini designed gearbox with Porsche-style synchromesh on all gears, which substantially improved the drivetrain. From 1966 to 1968, 224 units of the 400GT 2+2 were released.

source:Lamborghini

There was a special, one-off version of the 400GT called the 400GT Monza, which featured unique bodywork by Giorgio Neri and Luciano Bonacini. The car was reportedly built for an American client for the possibility of racing it in Le Mans. However, this plan never came to fruition. The car was eventually sold to a wealthy Spaniard, where it remained until the owner died in the early 1990s. The car has since been put up for auction at Bonhams and was purchased for a reported £160,000 by a UK collector.

Production stopped in the summer of 1968, and the Islero later replaced the Lamborghini 400GT 2+2. We'll pick up here next time!

First Monthly Lamborghini Marque Day at Supercar Sunday

$

This past Sunday, July 21st, 2013, was the first monthly Lamborghini Marque Day at Supercar Sunday. North Los Angeles Lamborghini in conjunction with Lamborghini Club of America Los Angeles, created this monthly event to make a tradition of bringing local Lamborghini owners together -- and what better place than Supercar Sunday?

This Sunday was the perfect start to what we hope becomes a day to look forward to every month. As usual, Southern California weather did not disappoint and as the sun rose to position, we were in the company of great cars and great people -- something you can find every Sunday at the Supercar event. But this day, and every future third Sunday of the month was and will be a Lamborghini Marque.

After we got our fix of caffeine and caught up with friends in the community, we continued the day with a drive through the canyons. The final destination was the Sunset Restaurant in Malibu. The scenery, the food, and the company hit the spot.

The day was made possible by The Auto Gallery team, Lamborghini Club of America Los Angeles, and Supercar Sunday -- cooperation that will continue to make this event a tradition. Checkout our video highlights of the event plus some candid snapshots (click here to visit photo gallery) and join us next month.

What Does a $4.4M Car Look Like? The Lamborghini Veneno

$

0
It's not everyday that we get to talk about a 4.4 million dollar super sports car. (Approximate price based on current conversion rates) Behold, the Lamborghini Veneno. First unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show in March, as part of Lamborghini's 50th Anniversary Celebration, only three unique units of this extremely exclusive racing prototype and road-going super sports car were planned for release. They have all been sold and almost all prior to its debut at the auto show. Quietly, it was announced that several more would become available to only the most elite and discerning clientele - Lamborghini North Los Angeles is your connection.

Watch the unveiling of the Lamborghini Veneno at the Geneva Auto Show and learn more about this exceptional piece of Italian design below.

Less Weight, More Driving Fun: A Racing Prototype For the Road

The Lamborghini Veneno is focused on optimum aerodynamics and cornering stability, giving drivers a the lifelike and dynamic experience of a racing prototype, yet it is fully homologated for the road. Its carbon fiber, lightweight design is not only visible, but is also evident on the performance side. Offering a power-to-weight ratio of 4.25lbs/hp, a powerful V12 engine, and an extremely fast-shifting 7-speed ISR transmission with 5 driving modes and permanent all-wheel drive, the Veneno ensures performance in nothing short of mind-blowing. You can expect 740hp, a top speed of 220mph, and a 0-60 time of 2.8 seconds.

Source: Lamborghini

Just like the front end, the rear of the Veneno has been optimized for underbody aerodynamics and high speed cornering stability. The smooth underbody transitions into a substantial diffuser framing the four sizable exhaust pipes divided by a splitter to increase the level of down-force peak. Large openings also serve to ventilate the engine bay and manage airflow to the rear wing, with the only sealed area at the rear being that reserved for the license plate. And, have you seen the taillights?

Source: Lamborghini

High-Tech Interior on the Lamborghini Veneno

Carbon fiber also dominates the interior of the Veneno. The carbon fiber monocoque becomes visible inside the car in the area of the central tunnel and the sills. The two lightweight bucket seats are made from Lamborghini's patented Forged Composite. The lightweight woven carbon fiber CarbonSkin® is used to clad the entire cockpit, part of the seats and the headliner. Not only does this reduce weight, it increases the driving fun and certainly makes the Veneno a head-turner.

Source: Lamborghini

Tradition Comes Alive

Much like the Gallardo and Aventador, and fully in keeping with the tradition of the Lamborghini brand, the name of the Veneno originates from a legendary fighting bull. "Veneno" is the name of one of the strongest and most aggressive fighting bulls ever. He is also famous for being one of the fastest bulls in the history of bullfighting. His name became popular in 1914, when he fatally wounded the famous torero Jose Sanchez Rodriguez during the bullfight in the Sanlucar de Barrameda's arena in Andalusia, Spain.

Second chances like these almost never come around. Destined to be an iconic classic, will you be one of the lucky few that take advantage of this rare opportunity? Contact us at Lamborghini North Los Angeles to learn more.

Want to catch a glimpse of the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse before it's debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show? You've come to the right place - Lamborghini North Los Angeles is your connection to all things Lamborghini!

Source: Lamborghini

With the new Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, Lamborghini brings racetrack emotion directly to the road. Delivering high performance, owners can bring their fascination of motor racing to the street-legal world. This new and most extreme model in the Gallardo line-up is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo, the widely popular and successful race car from the Lamborghini Blancpain SuperTrofeo, the world's fastest one-make series. The Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse will debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Source: Lamborghini

The name "Squadra Corse" refers to the recently founded department within Lamborghini, which manages all motorsport activities from GT3 to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships in Europe, Asia and America.

Source: Lamborghini

The new Gallardo Squadra Corse is very similar to the race cars. Both share the same V10 engine, which is used in the racing version with no modifications. Similarly, the Squadra Corse has the same rear wing for enhanced aerodynamic load - achieving, under the best aerodynamic conditions, three times the load of the Gallardo LP 560-4 - for increased dynamic stability during tight, high speed driving. Another element taken directly from the racing version is the removable engine hood with quick-release system. Both the rear wing and the hood are made from carbon composite material, as are a host of other components on the car.

Lightweight Construction via Carbon Fiber

Together with aluminum, carbon fiber is the basis behind the extremely lightweight construction of the new Gallardo top model. Boasting a dry weight of 2,954 pounds, 154 less than the already lean Gallardo LP 560-4, which gives the Squadra Corse an amazing power-to-weight ratio of 2.35kg/hp for unparalleled performance. Owners can expect a total of 570 horsepower at 8,000rpm - 10 more horsepower than the base Gallardo - and sprints in the new supercar to 60mph in just 3.4 seconds. The Squadra Corse offers a top speed of 198mph.

Source: Lamborghini

The Squadra Corse Technology

Similar to the Super Trofeo competition version, the new Squadra Corse is based on the technical underpinnings of the Gallardo Superleggera. The V10's unique firing order delivers the striking sound you hear in motor racing. Like the race car, the Squadra Corse comes as standard with the robotized e-gear six-speed transmission operated by steering wheel paddles. This electronically controlled system shifts through its six gears smoothly and much faster than any professional driver could. Every second of driving in the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse is packed with sheer excitement. This is in part due to its unrelenting grip in virtually all situations thanks to its all-wheel drive concept. In fact, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is the only single-brand racing series in the world that features all-wheel drive cars.

Representing an Italian Racing History

Showing its ultimate racing performance even in its exterior design - clearly attesting its commitment to its Italian homeland - the Gallardo Squadra Corse presents a decal strip along the flank that displays the green, white and red colors of the Italian flag. Future owners will be able to choose from Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and Rosso Mars (red). The matte black finish on the large rear wing, in contrast with the body color, is the perfect accent to the Squadra Corse. The hood, front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19-inch forged wheels are painted in high-gloss black, while the calipers are available in red, black or yellow.

A Minimalist Sport Interior

Extremely lightweight carbon fiber and Alcantara®, the perfect combination of sporty minimalism, are the dominant materials inside the Squarda Corse. Alcantara can be found on the underside of the dashboard, the central panel of the seat cushion and the backrest. The door panels, the racing seats and the center console cover are made from carbon fiber, a technology in which Lamborghini has achieved world-leading expertise. Carbon is also used for the handbrake frame, the middle of the center console, the lower rim of the steering wheel, the trim around the main and secondary instrument panels, the door handles, and the handle for opening the glove box. Comfort seats can be ordered in place of racing bucket seats.

Highlights of the Lamborghini Museum

In case you've never been, Sant'Agata Bolognese is a sacred place. Sacred not only because it is where some of the worlds most beautiful and powerful supercars are born, but because it's also where dreams come true.

The town of Sant'Agata is home to little more than 6,500 residents and is a community where residents live and breathe Lamborghini. I guess when you wake up each morning to the beautiful sound of screaming V12 engines, it's easy to fall in love. One of the highlights of the community is the Lamborghini Factory and Museum, where even the most hard-core Lamborghini enthusiast can learn new things.

Source: Lamborghini

As Lamborghini celebrates its 50th Anniversary, we decided to take you all there - virtually of course - and hope you enjoy the ride!

Lamborghini actually has several facilities located at the site of its factory, including its headquarters, a prototyping center, lightweight construction center, and the official museum and store. Let's take a look at the museum, which opened in 1001 as a sign of Automobili Lamborghini's commitment to celebrate a new breed of dream cars in the new millennium.

Lamborghini Museum Ground Floor

At the entrance you'll see the first production model built by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1964, the 350GT sitting beside a 400GT, as well as the Miura S with its unique central-rear V12 4.0L engine and eyelashes, and a late SV (Super Veloce). Next, you'll see the 1968-69 Islero sitting alongside the famous Espada, the first Lamborghini saloon car.

Source: Lamborghini

On the ground floor you can also admire the prototype (chassis number 001) of the legendary Countach, and the exotic Lamborghini LM 002, a unique off-road vehicle originally developed for military purposes. There are also models equipped with the V8 engine: the Urraco and the Silhouette, powered by 2.5L and 3.0L engines respectively.

A line-up of reduced scale models of original styling in either wood or plastic materials by various master coachbuilders and designers is also housed on this floor. Along the back wall, visitors will find the most significant photos of Lamborghini, depicting the history of the brand from its birth.

Lamborghini Museum First Floor

Moving up to the first floor, this area is dedicated to design, concepts, exotic and racing cars. Here you'll find a full-scale Miura Concept, built as a one-off car in 2006 to celebrate Miura's 40th anniversary, as well as the extreme Concept S, which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2005. Next to this are some older prototypes, such as two proposals by Gandini and Zagato for the Diablo's successor.

Source: Lamborghini

This floor is also home to special versions of production cars, such as the very last Countach and some of the most significant Diablos, including the 1998 GT2 prototype and the latest Diablo 6.0 SE in its unique gold color.

Center stage on this floor is dedicated to the astonishing Reventon, of which only 20 were built. With its edge-shaped body, similar to a jet fighter, this car is a star among stars.

The world's fastest police car, the Gallardo of the Italian Polizia Stradale, is also on display, as well as some samples of Lamborghini's finest F1 cars. Lastly, a Murcielago attached to the far-side wall is always a great photo opportunity for visitors.

Historic Lamborghini Series: 1966 - 1972 Lamborghini Miura

$

So far in our Historic Lamborghini Series we've looked at the 350GT and the 400GT. Today, let's look at the car that is credited with spurring the automotive world's obsession with high performance, two-seater, mid-engined sports cars - the Lamborghini Miura.

source:Lamborghini

Given the challenge by Bertone to produce a unique and sensational body for Lamborghini's latest Bologna-built chassis, designer Marcello Gandini would blend aggressiveness, elegance, originality and class into the 1966 Lamborghini Miura. With its central engine and seductive curvature, the Miura refined the concept of a Super Car.

Work to ready to Miura immediately proceeded at a feverish pace. Gandini later recounted that from October to February, everyone worked around the clock, seven days a week, like madmen. A major event was coming up and no one wanted to miss the opportunity to present this new model: the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. And therein lay the miracle: that the chassis presented as a completely experimental prototype in the fall of 1965 had become the most stunning road car in the world - in just four short months!

While enthusiasm was unbelievably high, Lamborghini was able to raise it even higher by bringing the Miura to the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, the most exciting weekend for sports cars in general and for top-level Italian ones in particular. The orange Miura he parked in front of the Hotel de Paris that Saturday afternoon attracted so many onlookers that they completely jammed the square in front of the Casino, arousing even more enthusiasm, interest and viewers. It was a runaway success.

Between 1966 and 1969, only 275 models of the 350hp Miura were made and it was not until 1969 that its evolution was launched on the market, the 370hp Miura S. The Miura SV would follow from 1971 to 1972.

We think the pictures speak for themselves.

Buying Your First Lamborghini: The Lamborghini Gallardo

$
0
0

Let's be honest. Whether you've been lusting over the Lamborghini since the famous Countach poster graced the walls of your bedroom or since that Aventador sped by you on the streets of downtown L.A., you don't really need someone to spell out the reasons why you want to - and should - buy a Lamborghini. For many, purchasing a Lamborghini is the culmination of years of lusting and the symbol of hard work and success. But what if the goal of owning a Lamborghini was more attainable?

Although it's probably difficult for most people to think of a $200,000 automobile as "affordable," that is the position that theLamborghini Gallardo finds itself in within the Lamborghini lineup. Since its introduction, the V10 Gallardo has been charged with maintaining the style and attitude of Lamborghini's 12-cylinder cars, but has been made more livable in everyday use. This strategy has been successful for Lamborghini, and there's no shortage of buyers who appreciate such an affordable, usable and alluring super car.

Let's take a look at the different choices in the Gallardo lineup:

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2

While most other Lamborghini's come equipped with high-traction all-wheel drive systems, the LP 550-2 comes with a more traditional two-wheel drive setup that appeals to even the most discerning Lamborghini drivers. Packing a 5.2L V10, that offers 550hp, drivers can achieve a 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds in the Gallardo LP 550-2. This is quite staggering when you consider that the rear wheels are doing all the work. And, if you can keep your food on the floor, you'll find yourself racing down the road at a top speed of 199mph.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2, Source: Lamborghini

Starting at $181,900, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2 includes adaptive four-wheel independent suspension, speed sensing steering and 19' alloy wheels wrapped in 235/35YR19 front and 185/30YR19 rear performance tires. Lamborghini also provides basic, powertrain and corrosion perforation warranties for 36-months/unlimited distance. The mid engine V10 comes mounted to a 6-speed manual transmission delivering power to the rear wheels. Choose a Gallardo fitted with the e-gear system controlled by steering-column-mounted paddles, and shifts at both low and high gear are accomplished without the slamming violence you encounter in comparable super cars. The LP 550-2 tips the scales at just under 4000lbs and has a mpg of 12 in the city and 20 on the highway.

Other Gallardo LP 550-2 models include: the LP 550-2 Spyder, the LP 550-2 Bicolore, and the LP 550-2 Tricolore.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4

A super car in every sense of the word, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 offers a 5.2L, 560hp, V10 that can make every hair on your body stand on end as you approach the 202mph top speed. This new and redesigned Gallardo LP 560-4 also has an improved front and rear end, both of which focus on the triangular and trapezoidal shapes that Lamborghini has become famous for. This angular look is aggressive and modern, giving the Gallardo a fresh new look. With larger air intakes in the front and a larger air outlet in the rear, thermodynamic efficiency has also been improved. Other changes include "Apollo polished" 19-inch alloy wheels that give the new design the perfect finishing touch. Improved fuel efficiency over the previous cars makes the LP 560-4 capable of 13mpg in the city and 20mpg on the highway.

The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 is also available as theLP 560-4 Spyder.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4

For those looking for increased performance, reduced weight, and a purist look in excess of the 550-2 and 560-4, exploring the top-end of the Gallardo lineup is a must. Check out these examples: the Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante Edizione Tecnica, the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera and the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale.

Some of the staff at Lamborghini North Los Angeles recently visited one of our fans who is recovering from surgery today.

Our new friend Grant was suffering from the effects of leukemia, and when a family friend told us his favorite car was a Lamborghini, we decided to pay him a visit. When we were able to catch up with Grant, we were pleased to find him in high spirits after a bone marrow transplant.

Patients like Grant need donors who are a close match in order for a successful transplant. In spite of millions who have signed up for the bone marrow donor transplant list, some struggle to find a good match. Visit the Be The Match registry for more information about transplants or to sign up for the database of potential donors.

Stay tuned for more with Grant. We promised him a ride in one of our pre-owned Lamborghinis when he feels up to it.

Introducing Huracan LP 610-4

Lamborghini North Los Angeles is proud to introduce the all-new Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4.

The new model, set to replace the outgoing Gallardo, is equipped with a new 5.2-liter V10 engine which produces 610 horsepower. That power is to be fed to all four wheels through a new LDF seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Like most other Lamborghini cars, the Huracan derives its name from Spanish bullfighting history. Huracan was a bull that fought in Spain in August 1879. Renowned for its courage and outstanding sense of attack, the Conte de la Patilla bred Huracan showed unrelenting character and defiance in the ring.

The Lamborghini Huracan may get its name from the history books, but its chassis is derived from cutting edge technology. Built with a combination of carbon fiber and aluminum, the car only weighs 3,135 pounds. Another advanced technology, carbon ceramic brakes will be standard on the new car.

The combination of Lamborghini V10 power and light weight give the Huracan a 0-62 time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of over 202 MPH.

Lamborghini North Los Angeles is set to host a private unveiling of the new car in the near future. Contact us today for more information, or to put your name on the Huracan interest list.

The Lamborghini LP 700-4 Aventador comes as both a coupe and a roadster. Since the introduction of the new open-top version last year, customers have been burdened with the task of choosing between them.

Luckily for those in the market, Autocar recently released a video comparing the pros and cons of each Lamborghini. Meaningful real-world tests answer the questions that are on everyone's minds. These tests answer the industry standard comparison questions like 'Which model Aventador jumps the furthest?' or 'How many decibels of sound are created when you rev two Lamborghini V12s at the same time?'
